Mesh Subtract

Used to construct a mesh element by subtracting one existing mesh element from another.

You can access this tool from the following:

  • Ribbon: Modeling > Mesh > Modify Meshes
  • Toolbox: Modify Meshes

SettingDescription
Keep Originals Gives you a choice of original elements that may be retained in the model after subtracting the elements.
  • None — None of the original elements are retained.
  • All — All of the original elements are retained.
  • First — Only the first element chosen is retained.
  • Last — Only the last element chosen is retained.
Split Mesh If on, the second mesh element acts as a template for splitting the first mesh element. No material is removed from the first mesh element.
Use Second as Trimmer Only If on, the second mesh element acts as a trimming element only for the first mesh element. That is, the faces of the second mesh do not appear in the result.
Note: Setting may be toggled prior to accepting the construction.
Invert First If on, the normals for the first element are reversed. This causes the opposite portion of the second element to be removed in the result. In general, the normals of the first element point to the portion of the second element that is removed in the result.
Note: Not available when Use Second as Trimmer Only is enabled, because the second element (trimmer) does not appear in the result.
Note: Setting may be toggled prior to accepting the construction.
Invert Second If on, the normals of the second element are reversed. This causes the opposite portion of the first element to be retained in the result. In general, the normals of the second element point to the portion of the first element that is retained in the result.
