Line Style Editor Dialog, Selected Stroke or Vertex Section

These controls are visible only while a point symbol component is selected in the Components list box.

SettingDescription
Color Affects the display color of the symbol associated with the selected stroke or vertex.
  • Element — The symbol displays using the color of the element that uses the line style.
  • Symbol — The symbol displays using the color(s) of the elements in the symbol as originally created.
Weight Affects the line weight for display of the symbol associated with the selected stroke or vertex.
  • Element — The symbol displays using the line weight of the element that uses the line style.
  • Symbol — The symbol displays using the line weight(s) of the elements in the symbol as originally created.
Partial Controls whether and how the associated symbol displays if the selected stroke is a partial stroke. (For any given stroke, there are instances where only a fraction of the stroke displays — for example, at the beginning or end of the element or a segment of the element.)
  • Origin — The symbol displays if its origin (defined by the Justify setting) is within the displayed portion of the stroke. For example, if Justify is set to Center and more than half of the stroke displays, the symbol displays as well. On the other hand, if less than half of the stroke displays, the origin point is beyond the end of the displayed portion of the stroke, and the symbol is therefore not displayed.
  • Project — The symbol displays even if its origin is beyond the displayed portion of the stroke. In this case the origin of the symbol is defined by projecting a point to where the origin would be if the entire length of the stroke were displayed.
  • None — The symbol is not displayed if it is attached to a partial stroke.
Clip Partial If on and the selected stroke is partial, the symbol is clipped (truncated) at the same point where the stroke is clipped. This is useful for preventing the symbol from extending beyond the range of a partial stroke.
Allow Stretch If on and the selected (variable length) stroke is stretched, the symbol is stretched (scaled only in the direction of the stroke) by the same factor as the stroke. If off, the symbol cannot be stretched.
Justify Sets the location of the origin of the associated symbol on the selected stroke.
  • Center — The midpoint of the stroke.
  • Left — The starting point (left end) of the stroke.
  • Right — The ending point (right end) of the stroke.
Note: X Offset and Y Offset are horizontal and vertical offsets from the chosen location.
X Offset Sets the horizontal offset (distance), from the location set with the Justify option menu, by which the origin of the associated symbol is located on the selected stroke. The distance is specified in master units measured in the direction of the stroke pattern (x-axis).
Y Offset Sets the vertical offset (distance), from the location set with the Justify option menu, by which the origin of the associated symbol is located on the selected stroke. The distance is specified in master units measured in the direction perpendicular to the stroke pattern (x-axis) and its plane.
Rotation Affects the rotation of the symbol attached to the selected stroke or vertex.
  • Relative — The symbol rotation Angle is relative to the direction of the stroke. In other words, the stroke is the x-axis and the angle is the counterclockwise rotation from the stroke. When displayed, the symbol rotates with the direction of the line. If the symbol is attached to the vertex of a line string, its rotation is based on the average of the angles of the previous and next segments (same as the joint lines of a multi-line).
  • Absolute — The symbol rotation Angle is relative to the x-axis of the view in which the element was originally placed. When displayed, the symbol rotation appears "fixed" and is not affected by the direction of the stroke.
  • Adjusted — Similar to Relative but the symbol is automatically "flipped" when necessary so that it always appears "right side up" in the manner of dimension text. This option is most useful when using text in point symbols.
Angle Sets the counterclockwise rotation angle, in degrees, for the symbol attached to the selected stroke or vertex. The exact effect of the angle depends on the Rotation.
Select… Opens the Select Point Symbol dialog, which is used to select a symbol with which to associate with the selected stroke.
Note: To create a symbol, follow the procedure To create a point symbol.
Names Lists names of all symbols in the open line style library. The selected point symbol displays below the list box.
Remove Cancels the association between a symbol and the selected stroke or vertex.
Create Opens the Create Point Symbol dialog, which is used to create a point symbol.

This button is dimmed if no elements are selected or a fence is not placed.
