Text Substitutions

You can use the Text Substitutions dialog to replace text in your design file for the printed output. To perform pen table text substitution, you place a unique text string in your DGN file that, when printing or print previewing, the pen table application searches for and replaces with new text that you specify. The replacement text string is printed using the same text attributes (font, justification, character spacing) defined in the original text element.

The replacement text can be the value of one of several tokens provided by the pen table:

  • A literal text string
  • Predefined replacement tokens such as, design file name and pen table file name
  • The value(s) of one or more environment variables in conjunction with literal text
  • The <expr?name=...> token to reference a named expression
  • Printing accounting variables.

Proposed replacement text strings are special strings that are converted to the required information during previewing or printing. When specifying these text substitutions, the system provides a suggested actual string. You can place an identical text string in the design file at the position that you want the text substitution. Alternatively, you can amend the actual string to match an existing text string in the design.
