Printing, Publishing, and Export

In this stage you print or publish the sheet as well as export the models to DWG. The sheet is either plotted on a printer, converted to pdf, or published as an i-model.

Saving Dynamic Views to DWG

When you save a DGN file as DWG, the design and drawing models are saved as models (models space) and sheet models are saved as layouts (drawing layouts). The DWG file format allows one model (model space) and unlimited layouts (drawing layouts) per file. When you save a DGN file that contains dynamic views to DWG you will get different results depending on:

The different cases and their results are explained below:

  1. If the design, drawing, and sheet models are stored in the same DGN file, say A.dgn, two DWG files are created. First is A.dwg containing the design model as model space and the sheet model as layout and second is A-drawing.dwg containing the drawing model as model space and a blank layout.
  2. If the design model is stored in one DGN file, say A.dgn and drawing and sheet models are stored in other DGN file, say B.dgn, and if you save B.dgn as DWG, then:
    1. For Merge external attachment setting, B.dwg is created and contains the drawing model as model space and sheet model as layout.
    2. For Retain external attachment setting, two DWG files are created, namely A.dwg and B.dwg. A.dwg contains the design model of A.dgn as model space. B.dwg contains A.dwg referenced in the model space and sheet model from B.dgn as layout.
  3. If the design, drawing, and sheet models are stored in three different files, say A.dgn, B.dgn, and C.dgn, and if you save C.dgn as DWG, then
    1. For Merge external attachment setting, C.dwg is created and contains a blank model space and the sheet model as layout.
    2. For Retain external attachment setting, three DWG files are created, namely A.dwg, B.dwg, and C.dwg. A.dwg contains the design model of A.dgn as model space. B.dwg contains A.dwg referenced in the model space. C.dwg contains the model space from B.dwg referenced as layout.
  4. If your dynamic view contains just the design and sheet model in one file, say A.dgn and if you save A.dgn as DWG, then the A.dwg contains the design model as model space and sheet model as layout.
  5. If your dynamic view contains the design and sheet models stored in different files, say A.dgn, B.dgn, and if you save B.dgn as DWG, then
    1. For Merge external attachment setting, B.dwg contains a blank model space and the sheet model as layout.
    2. For Retain external attachment setting, two DWG files are created, namely A.dwg and B.dwg. A.dwg contains the design model of A.dgn as model space. B.dwg contains A.dwg referenced as layout.
