To Reference a Named Expression in a Pen Table

  1. In the DGN file, place a string of text for the user name ($USER$) that you want substituted with something else in the printed output.
  2. In the Modify Pen Table dialog’s Global Actions section, click the Text Substitutions button.

    The Text Substitutions dialog opens.

  3. From the Text Substitutions dialog’s Edit menu, choose Insert New.

An entry labeled "Original" appears in the list box.

  4. In the Actual field, replace "Original" with $USER$. Text substitution is case sensitive, so make sure that the Actual string is exactly the same as that in the DGN file.
  5. In the Replacement field, type the replacement string "Current User: $(USERNAME); Author: <expr?name=_Author>."
Note: To reference a named expression, you must use the <expr?name=...> token, where "..." is the name of a named expression.
  6. Press <Enter> to update the list box entry with the specified strings.

  7. Close the Text Substitutions dialog.
  8. Save the pen table.
