Place Pond

Used to create a pond.

Ribbon

Layout > Layout > Place Pond

Workflow

Method - choose the method to use to describe the boundary of the pond:
  • Pick Points lets you pick a series of points (by clicking in the graphics, Civil AccuDraw, or snapped to other graphics)
  • Pick shape lets you select a graphic
  • Flood Fill lets you pick intersecting graphics
  • From Terrain Model lets you pick a terrain model

Select Inflow - pick the headwall that discharges water into the pond, or Reset if this element has not been created.

Select Outflow - pick the headwall or pond outlet structure that discharges water from the pond, or Reset if this element has not been created.

Select reference surface - pick a terrain model if you want a graphic to be created in the 3D model (by draping the catchment boundary over the terrain model) or Reset if you do not want this.

Use Scaled Area - if checked, the enclosed area of the boundary will be used. If unchecked, you can type in the area to use in the Area field.

Select surface (for the "From Terrain Model" method only) - pick the terrain model of the pond. This terrain model must include the pond invert and the top of the pond features, so that it models the total volume of storage that is available.

Maximum Water Elevation - the highest elevation that the water in the pond can reach. This is the elevation at which an overflow will start to operate, and would not normally be the top of the slope. This prompt tells you the lowest and highest elevations found in the terrain model that you selected in the last prompt.

Select Point Within Pond Area - datapoint to pick a location within the pond. This location is used to find a closed contour that surrounds it, at the Maximum Water Elevation.

Datapoint to Accept Boundary. Reset to reselect - datapoint if the graphic for the pond area is correct, or Reset to go back to the Select Point Within Pond Area prompt.

Feature Definition - Defines the feature definition to be assigned to the new pond.

Notes:

If a pond is created using the From Terrain Model method, then the terrain model is used to create the Elevation-Area data, which can be viewed in the Utility Properties. This is the surface area of the pond at the elevation of each triangle vertex in the terrain model, from the lowest elevation to the Maximum Water Elevation. This data is automatically updated if the terrain model is changed. This data can only be created if the From Terrain Model method is used - for the other methods you will need to enter this data manually.

Manipulators

Use Element Selection to select the catchment and see its edit manipulators:
  • Vertex manipulators can be used to move the vertices of the catchment polygon.
  • The Inflow manipulator can be used to assign or change the inflow to the pond.
  • The Outflow manipulator can be used to assign or change the outflow for the catchment.

Properties

Select the pond and click Properties to access the graphical and spatial properties of the pond. Select the pond and click Utility Properties to access the hydraulic properties of the pond.
