Item Sets Dialog
Used to create sets of items based on the properties you select. This dialog can be docked to the sides or bottom of the application window.
Opens when you select the Item Sets tool on the Primary Tools toolbox.
You can drag elements from the view window on to an item set listed in the dialog.
When you create an item set in the Item Sets dialog, the item set also displayed in the Named Groups dialog and can be manipulated as a named group.
You can create a configuration variable MS_DISPLAY_STYLE_MODEL_TRANSPARENCY and set it to point to the name of a custom display style that you create using the Display Styles dialog. When you select an item set and click the Model Transparency icon, that custom display style is applied to the view.

Icon Bar | The dialog icons are used to create, import and manipulate item sets. |
Active |
When on, all the elements in the item sets are redrawn using the chosen settings for priority, display and color. Click the icon to turn on or off the status of the item set. |
Name | Displays the name of the item set. Each item set must have a unique name. Left-click in the field to edit the item set name. The name defaults to ItemSet-1, ItemSet-2, and so on. |
Description | (Optional) Displays a description of the item set. Left-click in the field to add the description. |
Priority |
Determines which visualization properties (override color/undisplayed) are used for elements in multiple item sets. The highest priority is 1. If an element is in more than one item set, the item set with the highest priority number determines the display of that element. Newly created item sets default to the lowest priority. If an item set is removed, all other item sets automatically reorder to fill in any missing priority numbers. Left-click the Priority field to open a drop-down menu to change the priority of the item set. |
Display |
Determines if the elements are displayed. If checked and the item set is active, the elements display. Left-click in the field to change its status. |
Color |
Sets the element color for all elements in the item set. The color is only set in memory; the elements are not physically modified. Left-click to open the Active Color dialog to change the color. You can multi-select items sets and change the color of the selected item sets simultaneously. |
Transparency |
Allows you to view or set the transparency of the item set. Transparency can range from 0% to 100% where a value of 0 indicates no transparency at all, while a value of 100 indicates almost complete transparency. You can multi-select items sets and change the transparency of the selected item sets simultaneously. |
Elements | Displays the number of elements present in the item set. |
Selection Expression | Sets a valid expression used to filter the elements. Click the Search for Items icon to open the Item Set Search dialog. Once you click OK in the Item Set Search dialog, the Selection Expression section is populated. An item set populated by the drag-and-drop operation or by the Add Elements tool displays the words, Manual selection. |
Last Rebuild | Provides the date and time that the item set was last processed. This date/time updates each time a query is executed, a drag-and-drop operation is performed, add/remove element is applied or whenever there is a change in the contents of the item set. |
Selectable | Hidden by default, the Selectable column is useful for controlling whether element selection will be for an individual element or all of the elements in the named group/item set. |
Locked | Hidden by default and read-only, the Locked column is used to indicate whether the named group/item set can be modified by drag-and-drop or add/remove element operations. If a query result is used to populate an item set and the lock is on, when a drag-and-drop or add/remove element operation takes place, a dialog displays allowing you to unlock the item set and convert it to a manually modified item set. |
