Pedestrian/Sidewalk Live Loads
CHBDC clause 3.8.9 specifies pedestrian loads to be applied to the walkway area of a bridge. However you may have to reduce this load by 20% manually, to comply with the provisions of this clause, when designing highway bridges with sidewalks for the Ultimate limit states. If you want to use pedestrian loads, select the “Include Pedestrian Load” check box on the Loads screen and input the appropriate magnitude in the text box. The load is analyzed in the same manner as a lane load, loading only those parts of the bridge that would cause a maximum moment or shear at each section.
Load Factors
The default load factors used in Precast/Prestressed Girder are from CHBDC Table 3.1 and Table 3.2. The default limit states for prestressed (pre-tensioned) concrete design are Service Limit State Combination 1 and Ultimate Limit State Combination 1.
Dynamic Load Allowance Factor for Truck Loads
Although the CHBDC requires (Clause 3.8..4.5.1) that the Dynamic Load Allowance be calculated based on number of axles of the CL-W Truck used in determining the max. force effects, the default dynamic load allowance factor considered by Precast/Prestressed Girder for moment and shear for all components other than deck joints and for all limit states other than fatigue is 30%. The factor shall be taken as (1 + IM/100). For example, dynamic load allowance factor for the truck component is (1 + 30/100) = 1.30.
