Unit data usually requires periodic updating to reflect changes in labor or materials costs. Managing updates to public units is reserved for users with this administrative capability. Private units can be updated by their owners. If unit data is maintained in an external system, the capability to update units in Bentley OpenUtilities Designer may not be available.

Since values for certain cost properties are used by Bentley OpenUtilities Designer in generating other costs, cost updates will affect cost calculations.

The Compatible Unit Properties dialog box, Macro Unit Properties dialog box, Material Item Properties dialog box, and Custom Cost Properties dialog box are used to update cost data and other unit properties.

Modifying the components of a unit requires the Unit Assistant. For more information, see Changing the Composition of Units.
