Using the Units Catalog

The Units Catalog contains lists of public compatible units, macro units, materials, and custom costs as well as your private units. In the Design Assistant, the catalog is displayed when the Units Catalog command is selected on the View menu. The Units Catalog is also displayed in the Unit Assistant.

  • Units Catalog, Design Assistant view-When you open a design in the Design Assistant, you can access the Units Catalog to manually assign macro units, compatible units, materials, and custom costs to the design. When used in the Design Assistant, the catalog provides an extra page, the Matched CUs page. When you select an assigned feature displayed in the Design Workspace, the Matched CUs page of the Units Catalog shows all the compatible units that have been associated with the feature type of the selected facility. You can then use a drag-and-drop operation to assign a matched unit to the selected feature. During configuration, units are associated with feature types to allow automatic unit assignment (see Assigning Units Automatically).
  • Units Catalog, Unit Assistant view-When you open a unit in the Unit Assistant, the Units Catalog is displayed so that you can add components to a unit, compare unit properties, and perform other unit management tasks.

Finding Items in the Units Catalog

The Units Catalog displays the items in the Units, Materials, and Custom Costs folders, organized in the following categories:

  • Macros
  • Compatible Units
  • Materials
  • Custom Costs
  • Matched CUs (Design Assistant view only)

If you have created custom folders to store special units, materials, and custom costs, these items are displayed in the catalog if you have applied the Show in Units Catalog setting to the folder (see Displaying Custom Folders of Units in the Units Catalog).

Within each category, items are sorted numerically or alphabetically, depending on the active sort option (see Selecting the Sort Order of Items in the Units Catalog). Macro units and compatible units can be sorted by their ID, Name, or Class Code. Materials are sorted by ID or Name. Clicking a numbered or lettered tab along the left side of the catalog displays the page of items whose sort field begins with that number or letter. Your private units, materials, and custom costs are displayed on the Private page. Search for can be used to filter the current tab’s contents based on any of the displayed attributes.

In the Unit Assistant version of the Units Catalog, custom costs are displayed for reference purposes; they cannot be selected as components of macro and compatible units. In the Design Assistant version of the catalog, custom costs can be assigned to a design in same way as macro units, compatible units, and materials.
