Edit and Design Processes
Bentley OpenUtilities Designer provides a complete set of tools for each stage of the design process. Although design procedures can vary from company to company, the following steps describe a typical way of creating a design using Bentley OpenUtilities Designer:
- Create a record of the design using the New Design dialog box.
- Lay out the required work locations using the Design Assistant.
- Assign the required facilities and compatible units using the Features Catalog and the Units Catalog.
- Optimize the design.
- Generate a bill of materials, cost estimate, and other reports.
- Produce a work sketch.
- Attach the design to the work request.
- Mark the work request to indicate that design work is complete, which queues the work request and design for approval.
- Submit the approved work request and design for construction.
- Close out the work request when the job is finished.
A typical workflow for Bentley Expert Designer Communications design editing is the following:
- Transition the work request to indicate the design is in progress. The transition action automatically creates and attaches a design to the work request.
- Lay out the design.
- Optimize the design.
- Generate a bill of materials, cost estimate, and other reports.
- Produce a work sketch.
- Mark the work request to indicate that design work is complete, which queues the work request and design for approval.
- Submit the approved work request and design for construction.
- Close out the work request when the job is finished.
