Duct Equipment Specifications

The Duct Setup menu offer functionality to setup annotations, information blocks and different duct equipment.

Note: Accessing the setup section is usually password protected. Refer to the administration guide for more information on setting a password.
Note: Administrative privileges are required to setup or edit devices.

Annotation

MicroStation Text Styles are used to define the Symbology that the duct annotations will have on the map. Once text styles are defined, the annotation setup found in the strand module is used to associate text style to annotation type.

Setup Duct Annotation

  1. From the Bentley Communications menu, select Modules > Strand.

  2. Select the appropriate strand resource file.

  3. From Strand Module menu, select Strand File > Setup.

  4. From the Strand Resource dialog box, click on Edit.

  5. The Strand Setup dialog box opens.

  6. Select a text style and a weight for the Enclosure Name and for the Duct Name feature.

  7. Select Duct from the Strand Lines drop down list located at the upper right corner of the dialog box and specify the text style, the weight and the offset of the duct distance annotation.
  8. Click OK to update the database.

Create a Text Style

  1. From the Element menu in the project .DGNLIB, choose Text Styles.
  2. The Text Styles dialog opens.

  3. From the menu bar of the Text Styles dialog, choose Style > New or from the icon bar of the Text Styles dialog, click New.
  4. A new “Untitled” style appears in the Text Styles list.
    Note: The settings for the new style are taken from the active settings. To use another text style as a template, activate it first, then create a new style; or make a copy of it.
  5. Key in the desired name for the new text style and press <Enter>.
  6. The new text style name appears in the Text Styles list.
  7. From the Text Styles dialog, choose Styles > Save or from the icon bar of the Text Styles dialog, click Save.
  8. The new text style is saved.
    Note: The new text style is not automatically activated; you must activate it by right clicking on the new text style and choosing Activate. Once text style changes are made to the project .DGNLIB, open the project DGN seed file and update all text styles to the new or updated styles in the project .DGNLIB.

Conduit

A conduit is a pipe or tube joining two enclosures together for enclosing wires or cable.

Open the Conduit Dialog Box

  1. From the Duct Module menu, select Duct-Setup > Conduit.

  2. The Conduit Editor dialog box opens.

Edit a Conduit

  1. Select one of the conduits from the Conduit List. Highlighting the conduit loads the information into the window.

  2. Edit any of the information fields in the dialog box.
  3. Click Update to save the information in the database.

Create a Conduit

  1. Key in the conduit ID.
  2. From the Shape pull-down menu, select which shape to use to display the conduit (Circle, Square, Hexagon, or Octagon).
  3. Enter the inside and outside conduit diameter that is used to correctly display the conduit size.
  4. Enter Manufacturer, Part Number, Material, and Cost (Optional).
  5. Click Add to save the information in the database. The newly created conduit adds to the Conduit List.

Delete a Conduit

Highlight the conduit in the Conduit List and click Delete. The conduit removes from the database.

Note: A conduit already used in the network cannot be deleted.

Bundles

A Bundle is a combination of different conduits that represents a route from one enclosure to another.

Note: Conduit must be created before bundles.

Open the Bundles Dialog Box

  1. From the Duct Module menu, select Duct-Setup > Bundles.

  2. The Bundle Editor dialog box opens.

Edit a Bundle

  1. Select one of the bundles from the Bundle List. Highlighting the bundle loads the information into the window.

  2. Edit any of the information fields in the dialog box.
  3. Click Update to save the information in the database.

Create a Bundle

  1. Key in the bundle ID.
  2. Enter Manufacturer, Part Number, and Cost (Optional). The bundle adds to the BOM if a Part Number is assigned to it. Conduits add to the BOM if no Part number is entered.
  3. Select the Color, Weight, Style, and Scale used to display the bundle route on the map.
  4. Add one or many components to the bundle.
    Note: Components are previously defined conduits that can be used with other conduits to make up a bundle. A component can also be a previously defined bundle. Components are the detailed listing of the unit being used. They can be just a single item.
  5. Click Add to save the information in the database. The newly created bundle adds to the Bundle List.

Add a Component

  1. Click Add from the Components section.

  2. The Add Component dialog box opens.

  3. Enter a name in the New Component Name field. This is a required field. To add an array of components, select the Add by array check box and define the number of Rows, Columns, and Spacing between each.
  4. Choose a component from the Available Components list.
  5. Click OK when completed and then click in the Current Bundle display window to place the component.
  6. Continue to add additional components as needed.
  7. Click Add to save the information in the database. The newly created bundle is added to the Bundle List.
  8. Click Update to save the information in the database.

Move a Component

  1. Click Move from the Components section and click the component in the Current Bundle display window.
  2. Drag the component to its new location.
  3. Click Update to save the information in the database, or click Close and the component moved is not saved at its new location.

Delete a Component

  1. Click Delete from the Components section and double-click the component in the Current Bundle display window.
  2. Click Update to save the modification in the database.

Change the Color of a Component

  1. Click Color from the Components section and choose the color to associate to a component.
  2. Click on the component in the Current Bundle display window. The component color changes to the one selected.
  3. Click Update to save the modification in the database.
    The View Control buttons above the display window manipulates the view such as Fit View for fitting the entire view in the window, Zoom in/out and Window for viewing a specific area.

    Note:

Delete a Bundle

Highlight the bundle in the Bundle List and click Delete. The bundle removes from the database.

Note: A bundle already in use in the network cannot be deleted. In order to delete a bundle from the duct resource, all existing instances of that model must be removed from the project.

Enclosures

Enclosures allow for access to the duct system by using either a manhole or handhole type of enclosure.

Open the Enclosure Dialog Box

  1. From the Duct Module menu, select Duct-Setup > Enclosures.

  2. The Enclosure Editor dialog box opens.

Edit an Enclosure

  1. Select one of the enclosures from the Enclosure List.

  2. Edit any of the information fields in the dialog box.
  3. Click Update to save the information in the database.

Create an Enclosure

  1. Key in the enclosure ID.
  2. Select the type of enclosure to create (Manhole or Handhole).
  3. Enter Manufacturer, Part Number, Material, and Cost (Optional).
  4. Select the Cell representing the enclosure and click Add (located at the bottom of the dialog) to add this enclosure to the enclosure list.
  5. Enter a Name and dimensions for the enclosure wall being defined. The units of measure must be the same units as conduit (i.e., inches, feet, cm).
  6. Click Add and continue defining the remaining enclosure walls.
  7. Click Rep Layout to define the enclosure wall layout.
  8. Choose the Layout Type (Sequence or Butterfly) and click OK.

  9. To switch walls, hold down the left mouse button, select the first wall that needs to be switched and drag it to its new wall position.
  10. Once the walls sequencing is done, click OK to exit.
  11. Click Update to save the information in the database, or click Close and the enclosure changes are not saved. If you click Close, an Alert window opens verifying that you want to exit without saving.

Delete an Enclosure

Highlight the enclosure in the Enclosure List and click Delete. The enclosure removes from the database.

Note: An enclosure already used in the network cannot be deleted.

Companies

Company name and color codes designate ownership and lease rights to assigned ducts.

Open the Company Dialog Box

  1. From the Duct Module menu, select Duct-Setup > Companies.

  2. The Company Editor dialog box opens.

Edit a Company

  1. Select one of the companies from the Company List.

  2. Edit any of the information fields in the dialog box.
  3. Click Update to save the information in the database.

Create a Company

  1. Key in the company Name.
  2. Select a Color to represent the company.
  3. Click Add to save the information in the database. The newly created company adds to the Company List.

Delete a Company

Highlight the company in the Company List and click Delete. The company removes from the database.

Note: A company already used in the network cannot be deleted.

Title Block

Wall title block displays duct information in a wall layout diagram (butterfly drawing).

Open the Wall Title Block Dialog Box

  1. From the Duct Module menu, select Duct-Setup > Title Block.

  2. The Wall Title Block Setup dialog box opens.

Edit the Wall Title Block

  1. Click the Select button and scroll through the Select Cell library to find the Duct Title Block cell.
  2. Highlight one of the positions in the Current fill-ins List.

  3. Highlight a field in the Available fill-in fields.
  4. Click <-Set fill-in button. The Current fill-ins List updates with the new field.
  5. Click Update to save the information in the database.

Create the Wall Title Block

  1. Key in a level between 12 & 15 for the new title block.
  2. Click Select to select a cell from the cell library to use in the wall layout diagram.
  3. Select the number of fields to be included in the title block.
  4. Fill in all Current fill-ins positions with Available fill-in fields making sure each field is properly positioned in the title block as indicated by the Field position number. A maximum of 9 fields can be used in the title block.
  5. Click Update to save the information in the database.

Import

The Import command loads a Duct Setup file into the current project.

Import the Duct Setup File

  1. From the Duct Module menu, select Duct-Setup > Import.

  2. Locate the Setup file (duct.asc) and click OK.
    Note: Setup file cannot be imported on project with existing specifications.

Export

The Export command generates and saves a copy of the Duct Setup file.

Export the Duct Resource File

  1. From the Duct Module menu, select Duct-Setup > Export.

  2. Click OK to export and save the default filename (duct.asc).

Change Duct Resource File

Change a Duct Resource File

  1. Select Duct-Setup > Change RSC from the Communications menu.

  2. Click Setup and choose the duct resource file to edit.

  3. Click OK when completed.

Unload

Exit the Duct Module

  1. From the Duct Module menu, select Duct-Setup > Unload.

  2. The Duct module closes and the software unloads.
