Place

Facility

The Facility command places strand on the map, by using pole, pedestal, and strand.

Place New Facility

  1. From the Strand Menu, click the Place > Facility.

  2. Select two points to set the direction (active angle) in which the strand is drawn. The Pole/Ped information box opens.

  3. Click SKIP to skip the placement of a pole or ped and place a “NULPED” cell at the current location. This cell must be included in the cell library and can be created as a small circle, slash, or another symbol.
  4. Set the location of your pole/ped - Aerial, Underground, Buried, Riser.
  5. Set the Pole or Ped type.
  6. Key in the number of counts for Residential, MDU, and/or Commercial. If Place Zero Counts box is checked, a house count symbol with zero addresses is placed on the map.
  7. Key in the pole numbers. It is possible to enter two different numbers to identify a single pole. Pressing the up or down arrow increments or decrements the pole number accordingly. Selecting the Post check box next to a pole number indicates the information posted on the map.
  8. The GPS Locator will be available if a GPS device is available and active on the computer. Click the GPS button to record the LAT/LON coordinates. You must have the GPS at the Pole/Pedestal location to record the accurate coordinates.
    Note: If a GPS device is not detected the function is greyed out.
  9. User fields are available for your use. This information can be posted on the map.
  10. Click OK when finished. The New Addresses dialog box opens, allowing you to enter and place new addresses on the map and in the database.

  11. From the New Addresses dialog box, click Select Street to open the Select Street Name dialog box.

  12. Key in the street name or choose it from the Street Name list.
  13. Key in the street number, city, zip code, and apartment.
  14. Click Add to add addresses in the New Addresses To Add list. To delete an address, highlight it in the list and click the Delete Selected button.
  15. Click OK when completed. The pole or ped is on the cursor.
  16. Place and accept the pole or ped.
  17. Place the House/MDU/Commercial text as it is on the cursor.
  18. Place the address text as necessary.
    Note: In DGN persistence mode, the Select Map dialog box opens to specify if the address text will be placed on the active map or on the reference map.

  19. The Strand Length dialog box opens.

  20. Enter the length of the strand.
    Note: Activate the Calculate check box to let the system calculate the strand distance while it is placed on the map.
    Note: If using segmented length for underground, use a “+” between the lengths. For example, 125+30+100 indicates that there are three segments between two peds totaling 255 feet. A Cell named NULPED is inserted between the segments. The nulped cell must be created if it does not exist in the cell library and can be created as a small circle, slash, or another symbol.
    Note: Key in a “0” distance when using drop poles. If an unwanted distance text is placed, use the delete command to delete it.
  21. Change the Location type as necessary so the BOM report reflects accurate information.
  22. Activate the Position check box to repositioned or window-center the active view with the pole or ped location.
  23. Click OK to proceed with the strand placement. If Reset is selected to change the position, the endpoint of the line is on the cursor. A radius is displayed indicating the keyed in distance. If using Calculate distance, you will need to specify the location of the strand endpoint.
  24. Position the distance text by moving the cursor above or below the line. Accept the position or Reset to change the position. Press data to accept the placement.
  25. Position the text and accept it. To have the distance text on the cursor for unrestricted placement, press Reset. This returns you to the beginning of the Stranding process. After placing the last pole and being prompted for a strand distance length, click Exit.

Place New Facility Parallel to a Road

  1. From the Strand Module menu, select Place > Facility.
  2. Click Reset to select the line or arc for parallel placement.
  3. Select a line on the map.
  4. The Pole/Ped information box opens.
  5. Enter the necessary information and click OK to proceed.
  6. A pole/pedestal is on the cursor.
  7. Moving the cursor moves the pole/pedestal parallel to the road with an offset specified in the strand setup.

  8. Click Data to place the pole/pedestal on the map.
  9. Click Reset to rotate the pole/pedestal or Data to accept the angle.
  10. The Strand Length dialog box opens.

  11. Select Place Parallel to place the strand parallel to the road.
    Note: Activate the Calculate check box to let the system calculate the strand distance while it is placed on the map.
  12. Click OK to proceed with the strand placement.
  13. Select a line/arc on the map for the strand parallel placement.
  14. Click Data to accept the line/arc. If using Calculate distance, you will need to specify the location of the strand endpoint.

    If entering strand distance in the Strand Length dialog box, the strand end point is drawn automatically on the map. Click Reset to change the endpoint position.

  15. Position the text and accept it. To have the distance text on the cursor for unrestricted placement, press Reset. This returns you to the beginning of the Stranding process.

Place New Facility Parallel to a Cul-de-sac

  1. From the Strand Module menu, select Place > Facility.
  2. Click Reset to select the line or arc for parallel placement.
  3. Select the cul-de-sac arc on the map.

  4. Click Reset to flip the strand direction.
  5. Click Data to place the facility.

HSCount

The HSCount command adds a count (Res, MDU, Com) to an existing pole or ped, and link to addresses, if necessary.

Add a House Count

  1. From the Strand Module menu, select Place > HSCount.

  2. Choose the pole or ped where the count will be added.
  3. The Create House Count dialog box opens.

  4. Key in house count information.
  5. Click Select and select address on the map to link to the house count.
  6. Click Process to complete.

Address

The Address command adds additional addresses to a house count.

Note: If Match is set to YES in the Strand Setup dialog box, the command is not available for selection.

Add an Address to a Pole or Pedestal

  1. From the Strand Module menu, select Place > Address.

  2. Select a House Count to which the address will be added.
  3. The New Address dialog box opens to enter address information.

Address Leader Line

The 'Place > Address Leader Line' command allows the user to place a leader line on any address. The attributes for the leaderline are determined by the leaderline criterion defined in the Strand Resource file. After clicking on this command, the user will be asked to select the Address to which this leader line will be attached.
