Ponds and the Computational Grid
For the 2D calculation to proceed in an efficient manner, all open-air ponds are treated as an interface between the 2D surface and the 1D hydraulic network.
This means the following:
- The area the pond takes up on the computational grid will be removed from the map and voided out. This excludes the ponds area from the 2D calculation.
- The depth of the pond is determined by the 1D calculation engine and not by the 2D engine.
- Flow can enter and exit the pond from and to the surface from the pond boundary.
