Early Warning Notifications
An Early Warning Notification (EWN) is a type of communication that identifies potential cost, time, and/or performance implications to a contract.
When a contract issue has been identified by either the project manager or the contractor, the other party is notified. The initiator determines whether an internal review is required, and if necessary, the review is completed prior to issuing the Early Warning Notification. The project manager and contractor then work together to determine the risks and mitigating actions, and assign them to the appropriate resources. Once all assigned actions have been completed, the project manager closes out the EWN.
The following diagram depicts the workflow for Early Warning Notifications:
The steps involved in creating an EWN are as follows:
- Create an Early Warning Notification initiated by either the Project Manager or the Contractor
- Add supporting objects to the EWN (optional)
- Complete the INITIATE task of an EWN
- If an internal review is required, complete the REVIEW task of an EWN
- ISSUE the EWN
- Assign and Perform Actions
- When all actions have been completed, CLOSE OUT the EWN.
