Reshape

You can modify feature geometry using the Reshape tool.

Reshape Clicking this button toggles the Reshape tool on and opens the Reshape dialog.

The datum network element that you have selected to reshape will be highlighted and each of the vertices along the line will be displayed as a black square. You can click and drag any of these vertices to reshape the line. You can also click on the datum network element to create a new vertex.

Reshape Dialog

The Effective Date is a required field. The current date appears by default, and it cannot be changed.

You have the following options when reshaping an element:

  • Simple Geometry Reshape: Use this option when you only want to change the shape of the element without changing the length or maintaining the history of the element. To perform a simple geometry reshape, leave the Replace, Recalibrate, and Rescale All switches in the Off position.
  • Replace: Use this option when you want to end-date the current datum and replace it with a new one using the updated geometry. Turn the Replace switch On and enter values for the From and Distance to End fields.
  • Recalibrate: Use this option when you want to change the measured length of the element being reshaped. Turn the Replace switch On and select a Reason for the change, the GIS Source, and enter a Document ID.
  • Rescale All: Setting this switch to On will automatically Rescale all of the routes the datum is a member of after the reshape.

Snapping

You may also want 'snap' the reshaped element to an existing element and hence replace its start or end node. To do so, click on the start or end vertex and drag it on top of the new node you want to snap it to. As soon as you release the button a drop-down menu will display with the following option as shown in the figure below:

  • Move Start/End Node Here: This option will just move the existing Start or End node of the reshaped datum to the new position.
  • Dissolve node to (<node_id)>: This option will replace the start or end node of the reshaped element with the <node_id> it snapped to. The original node will remain.
  • Dissolve node to (<node_id)> and Close Start/End Node: This is the same as the option above but in this case it will also end-date the existing node if it’s not an ‘orphan’ (i.e. not the start or end node of a different element).

Conflicts

If there are conflicts detected you are given several choices to resolve the conflict, like moving the node to a new position or changing only the geometry.

if the Reshape dialog is in the way you can minimize it with the minimize tool in the top right corner of the form .
