To create a datum by free-hand drawing (digitizing), use the Create Datum tool.

1. Click the map to place vertices. To start or end the new Datum Network Element at an existing Node, move the cursor over that Node until the Node ID is displayed, then click. If you do not start or end the Datum Network Element at an existing Node, then a new one will be created.
2. Double-click to finish drawing; the Create New Datum Element dialog appears, allowing you to enter property and attribute data.

The button seen in the screenshot, is only displayed if the attribute is set as a reference to a parent Group. If the parent group does not exist, pressing this button will display the Creating Datum Group form so you can create the parent group.

You will not be able to save the Datum Network Element attributes until you have entered all mandatory fields. These are highlighted in red. When you are finished entering data click Save to place the new datum. Click Cancel to exit without placing the datum.
