AECOsim Building Designer Help

Using the BXC Part Mapping Utility

  1. Open a AECOsim Building Designer design session using a DGN file in a workspace dataset containing compound cell libraries.
  2. Select ( BXC Part Mapping Utility) from the ribbon..

    Microsoft Office Excel opens.

  3. Click the Options button on the Security Warning bar to open the Microsoft Office Security Options dialog.
  4. In the Microsoft Office Security Options dialog, select Enable this content and click OK.
  5. From the Excel Add-Ins tab, open the BXC Utility drop-down menu and select Generate BXC Library Report.
Note: At this point if a DGN file is not open, you are prompted to open one. The prompt also requests that the design file contain compound cells that need to be edited.
The Generate BXC Library Report menu item opens the Select Cell Libraries dialog.
  6. In the Select Cell Libraries dialog, select one or more BXC files for editing, or click the All button to select all the files. Then click Continue.

A Processing dialog opens, displaying progress bars that indicate cell libraries and models that are being processed. When processed, each BXC file is opened in a separate Excel worksheet.

The worksheets for each compound cell and its components, display values for Name, Description, Level, Family and Part in columns labeled Existing. Information displayed in cells under columns labeled New, can be edited. By default, existing values are displayed under the New columns to enable the Find and Replace utility to facilitate bulk value changes in each column.

  7. Edit the values in the New columns using standard Excel tools.
Note: Please see Microsoft Office Excel Help for information on how to find and replace cells.
CAUTION: Do not edit colored cells in the worksheet. This can corrupt the compound cell libraries when processed!
  8. When edits have been completed, go to the Excel Add-Ins tab, open the BXC Utility drop-down menu and select Apply changes to BXC Library.

The values in the new column cells are applied to the compound cell libraries and the values in the Existing columns now match the New column values. This indicates that the compound cells have been modified.

  9. Exit Microsoft Office Excel, but do not save changes!

Not saving preserves the Excel BXC mapping template for future use.
