To Select Items by Section Type

Select the Modify Properties .

The Modify Structural Attributes tool settings window opens.

In the Section Orientation property group, select the Placement Point option Bottom, center, with the placement point at the center of the bottom flange.

Under the Structural Floor, select the Section Name specifying a section size of W14x22.

Go to the Select By Attributes dialog, and click Clear Selection to clear out previous selections. Then make sure that the mode settings are Master Only, Inclusive, and Selection, then click Criteria and choose Structural.

In the Selector – Criteria – Structural dialog, expand the Structural Geometry section.

Turn on the Section field, and enter or select W8X31 from the Structural Sections dialog.

Switch back in the Select By Attributes dialog, and click Apply.

You will see some of the steel columns are highlighted, because their section profile is W8X31.
