To merge nodes by selection

Select

Merge Nodes
).
The Merge Nodes tool settings dialog appears.

Choose a Location Method of Selection.
Note that when you choose Selection, the Node Tolerance field is grayed out.

Following the prompts, first select the node to remain.

Next, you can accept the node or select the next node to merge.
The second node disappears because it has been merged into the first.

Continue to select nodes to merge into the first node.
The node you are keeping will be named as the node to merge into within the text of the prompt.

When you have finished merging nodes, reset to accept the merges.
