Fraction/Percent of Gravity Loads |
The ratio of the gravity loads to use as destabilizing lateral loads is specified here as follows for the selecting building code:
- User Defined Story Forces: the fraction of the actual load to use when calculating the notional load must be typed.
- AISC 360-05/10: The AISC code identifies three conditions that affect the calculation of notional loads. Each condition specifies a different fraction of gravity load to use in the calculation of notional loads. These three fractional values are available in the drop-down list. As this is code mandated, no other values can be entered.
- BS 5950: The British code specifies a percent of gravity load to be used to calculate notional loads. As this is code mandated, it cannot be changed.
- CAN\CSA S16-01: The Canadian code specifies the fraction of gravity load used to calculate notional loads. As this is code mandated, it cannot be changed.
- AS 4100: The Australian code specifies the fraction of gravity load used to calculate notional loads. As this is code mandated, it cannot be changed.

Direction |
Selecting or de-selecting the X-Axis and Y-Axis check boxes, defines the direction of the notional loads. |
Gravity Load Type |
Selecting or de-selecting the Dead Load, Live Load, and Roof Load check boxes defines the notional load type. |
Generate Additional Load Cases for Analysis with Tension-Only Members |
An option is also available to create additional load cases for models with tension only members. Selecting this option results in loads defined in both the positive and negative direction. A warning is given if this option is selected and the model does not have tension only members. |
