Assign - Soil Properties

The Assign Soil Properties dialog box provides two ways to assign the soil properties that are below a footing.

SettingDescription
Allowable Bearing Capacity This option provides a quick and simple method to explicitly define the soil capacity under a footing. With this method the soil elastic modulus is automatically calculated by the program during footing design. For a description of the method used in calculating the soil elastic modulus refer to the technical chapter of the RAM Foundation module documentation.
Soil Table The second method for defining soil properties is more detailed and provides you with a way to define soil properties relative to the footing depth and minimum plan dimension. This gives you a method of duplicating the geotechnical soil report in such a way that the proper soil capacity can be defined as the footing is being optimized.

Using the Soil Wizard to define the soil table

  1. To define a soil table press the Wizard button
  2. From the Soil Wizard dialog box select the desired method for defining the Soil Table.
  3. Selecting Formula and pressing the Next button displays a dialog box which provides a method for defining the soil capacity relative to the depth and minimum plan dimension of the footing. The capacity, minimum dimension and increment values entered are used to generate all the data values for the Soil table which is automatically populated when the Save and Exit button is pressed.
  4. Selecting Existing Table and pressing the Next button displays a copy of the selected Soil Table which can be edited and saved under a different name.
  5. Empty Form provides a blank Soil Table form that can be filled by the user.
