Selecting the Layout - Joists - Add Generation command will cause the Add Joist Generation Mode dialog box to appear.

Selecting Units:

Within the Add Joist Generation Mode dialog box, you have the option to change the units of the Joist Spacing edit box, if you are using the English system of units. To enter distances in inches, select the Inches option button. To enter distances in feet, select the Feet option button.

Selecting the Generation Mode:

There are two options for generating joists.

Generate joists by specifying the Joist Spacing:

1. Click the Joist Spacing option button.
2. Type the space between joists (in current units) in the Joist Spacing edit box. This value should be precise.

Generate joists by specifying the Number of Equal Spaces between Joists:

1. Click the Number of Equal Spaces Per Beam option button
2. Type the number of spaces in the edit box.

Selecting Joist Orientation:

There are two options for specifying the new joist orientations.

1. Select the frame of reference from which the Angle will be measured by clicking either the Relative to Selected Beam Line or the Relative to X-Axis option button.
2. Type the angle between the reference joist line or the positive X-Axis and the new joists in the Angle From Beam Line edit box (between 0 and 90).

Adding the Joists:

1. Click Add. The dialog box will disappear and the RAM Modeler will enter the Add Joist Generation Layout Mode.
2. Select a line of adjacent beams to define one end of the new joists to be generated. To do this, click on one end of a beam line, move the mouse to the other end of the beam line, and click the mouse again. Crosshairs that indicate the angle will appear.
3. Click in the quadrant for the new joists to be added. The closest intersection of each new joist with an existing member in the selected direction will form the second end of the new joists.

Return to the Add Joist On-Grid Mode dialog box with the Right Mouse Button or the "D" key.

Return to the Layout - Joists menu with the "M" key.

Clicking the Cancel button or selecting any other RAM Modeler Layout command will end the Layout - Joists - Add Generation command.
