Layout - Beams - Assign Beam Fixity

The Assign Beam Fixity command is used to indicate the fixity conditions (Fixed or Pinned) of the beam ends.

The assigned fixity of Frame Beams is considered in RAM Frame.

The assigned fixity of Frame Beams of any material and of Gravity Beams of Concrete and Other are considered in RAM Concrete.

The assigned fixity of all beams is ignored in RAM Steel, where steel beams are assumed to be pinned.

Selecting the Layout - Beams - Assign Beam Fixity command causes the Assign Beam Fixity dialog box to appear. The dialog box contains three groups of option buttons: one for the major axis, one for the minor axis and one for torsion. The left set of option buttons in each group pertains to the left end of the beam while the right set of option buttons in each group pertains to the right end of the beam.

Beams are assigned the default fixity (fixed) conditions when they are created. To modify the frame fixity, select the appropriate option buttons.

Click either Single or Fence.

SettingDescription
Single: Click the target cursor on the beam whose end fixity you would like to change.
Fence: Fence an area in which the specified end fixity will be assigned to all beams.

Return to the Assign Beam Fixity dialog box with the Right Mouse Button or the "D" key.

Return to the Layout - Beams menu with the "M" key.

Clicking the Cancel button or selecting any other RAM Modeler Layout command will end the Layout - Beams - Assign Beam Fixity command.
