To select a master steel table

To select a master steel table that will be accessed when assigning steel member sizes in RAM Modeler or when designing steel members in the Design modules, use the following procedure.

A Master Steel table must be specified. Master Steel Tables must contain every steel size to be used by all modules and their associated properties. See RAM Structural System Tables for more information. The system administrator makes the default Master Steel Table designation at the time of installation.

Note: You can create or edit a master table using the The RAM Steel Table Editor.

You must use caution when making changes to the Master Steel Table used with RAM Steel Beam and RAM Steel Column design modules. When a Master Steel Table selection is modified, the Design Steel Tables selections for beams and columns must also be modified to correspond to the selected Master Steel Table. This is due to the fact that the Design Tables refer to the corresponding Master Tables for section property information. If this is not done, error messages will be encountered when the design module attempts to optimize a member. No design will be created.

  1. Either:

select Criteria > Master Steel Table

    or

select the Master Steel Table tool

The Master Table Selection dialog opens.
  2. Select the Master Steel Table to use.
  3. Click OK.

If the table selections are modified after one of the Design Modules has been run, optimized member designs will automatically be removed from the database. A warning message to this effect will be posted providing the option of canceling the change.

  4. Click OK.

A copy of the selected Master Table is saved with the database. If the database is moved to another directory or computer, the table moves with it. Note that if changes are made to the original Master Table that will not affect any databases that already use and have stored a copy of that table. The updated table can be selected for any database by repeating this procedure.
