The nominal moment capacity of the composite section is calculated to within 0.1%, and the nominal moment capacity is deemed adequate if it exceeds or is within 0.1% of the required moment capacity. The reason for this implementation is that the calculation of the capacity is an iterative process; the tolerance on the iteration has been set to 0.1% of the required capacity to prevent unnecessarily long design times. Note that round‑off in the steel table may introduce discrepancies of that magnitude. In extremely rare cases when the iteration does not converge, the tolerance is increased to 0.5%.
