RAM Structural System Help

To start RAM Concept

To analyze and design elevated concrete floor systems or mat foundations, use RAM Concept.

Note: You must have RAM Concept v6.0 or higher installed on your computer.

The model must already be framed in RAM Structural System before using the link.

RAM Concept is an analysis and design program that uses the finite element method for elevated concrete floor systems, or mat foundations. The floors or mats can be post-tensioned concrete, reinforced concrete, or a hybrid of the two.

  1. Either:

    select the RAM Concept tool

    or

    select Design > RAM Concept

    or

    press <Ctrl+T>

    The RAM Concept dialog opens.
  2. Select the story to link to RAM Concept from the list at the top of the dialog.

The list shows if a story has any slabs or mat foundations, as well as the slab type. It also shows the last time a story’s data was saved in Concept and the last time forces were sent back from RAM Concept to be included in the model.

You can check the List only stories with concrete slabs option to further filter the list to appropriate stories only.
  3. Select the Structure elements you want to export.
Tip: Typically, all of the structure objects should be exported to RAM Concept unless the RAM Concept model already exists and modifications to those objects have been made within RAM Concept. In that case the modified items should excluded from the subsequent export.
  4. Select the Loading items to be included in the export. If the Transfer Gravity Loads option is checked, then select the preferences for RAM Structural System gravity forces.
  5. Select if the column and wall forces will be sent back from RAM Concept to the RAM Structural System model.
  6. (Optional) If you have more than one version of RAM Concept installed, you can select which version of the product you want to use with the link.
  7. Click OK. The RAM Concept window opens. Refer to the RAM Concept manual and in the online help for details on using this program.

If a model has already linked one or more stories to RAM Concept, the Copy from existing Story data option will be available when a non-linked story is selected. Select an existing story from the drop-down and select the Copy button to launch RAM Concept for the new story using the reference story as a template including all layers and objects other than Mesh Input.

Note: Stories analyzed in RAM Concept through this dialog and backup files will be included as part of the RAM Structural System model. They can only be opened by RAM Concept through this link. RAM Concept will not be able to open these files when running stand-alone unless they are extracted from the RAM model and renamed.
