RAM Structural System Help

Member Forces/Deflected Shape

From the Load Case Member Forces and the Load Case Deflected Shape dialog boxes, a load case is chosen for which results will be displayed. Select a load case by clicking on it in the list box. Only one load case can be selected at a time from this dialog box. If you would like to view the combined results of load cases working on the structure simultaneously, use the Basic Post-Processor.

The Load Case Deflected Shape dialog box provides the option of viewing the deflected shape superimposed on the undeflected shape. To select this option, click the Include Undeflected Shape box so that an X appears in the box. The vertical displacement at quarter points along the length of the member can also be displayed by selecting the 'Show Vertical Displacement Values @ Qtr Pts’ box. The Net Deflection refers to the deflection along the member relative to a straight line drawn through the ends of the member in the deformed position. The gross deflection refers to the deflection along the member taken from the original position of the member. Also in this dialog box, a scale factor in which the deflected shape will be drawn can be entered in the Factor edit box. Animation of the deflected shape is available. It is activated by clicking the Start button. The speed of animation can be controlled by the use of the sliding control.

Clicking OK will cause the Load Case Member Forces or the Load Case Deflected Shape dialog box to appear from which the display can be modified or the results of other load cases can be displayed. Clicking Cancel will exit the dialog box and return you to the RAM Frame program.
