RAM Structural System Help

Codes

SettingDescription
Standard Provisions The dialog displayed by selecting the Criteria-Codes command displays all the available steel design codes. Select the code by which you want to perform design checks. Select the ’Show this dialog after selecting standard provision mode’ checkbox to automatically have this dialog displayed each time the engineer switches to the Steel-Standard Provision mode. The menu items available under the Criteria menu will change depending on the steel code selected.

The Load Combinations Generation dialog will automatically be displayed directly after this dialog is closed. Modifying the Code will remove all previously generated load combinations and will invalidate the results of that Code Check. The model will be redrawn on the screen in its original colors (rather than the Code Check colors) indicating that the Code Check must be re-run.

Seismic Provisions Changing to steel-seismic mode, or selecting criteria-codes (when in steel special seismic mode) will cause the Steel Design Code dialog box to appear. Select a code by clicking on its corresponding radio button.

The Following Seismic Codes are available in RAM Frame. The codes available will are based on the steel design code selected in the Standard Provision Mode. That is, strength seismic provision codes will only be available if a strength design code is selected in the Standard Provision Steel Mode.

The requirements of the latest Federal Emergency Management Agency Guidelines (FEMA 350) have been implemented for UBC 1997 LRFD and AISC 1997. FEMA 350 Recommended Seismic Criteria for New Steel Moment-Frame Buildings, (July 2000), including June 18, 2001 errata. When selected by the user the provisions from this code can be checked in lieu of the equivalent UBC 97 or AISC 1997 provisions.

You can select a code by selecting the appropriate option in the Building Code group in the dialog.

The options available on the options box depend on the building code selected. The options available are listed below:
